MONROE, La. – – The Monroe City School Board voted to extend Dr. Brent Vidrine’s contract by 12 months.
Five members voted to renew Vidrine’s contract. Two members, Board president Betty Ward-Cooper and District Six member Brandon Johnson, both opposed the renewal.
The Monroe City School Board is evaluating Superintendent Dr. Brent Vidrine’s contract, which expires on Dec. 31, 2020.
The evaluation is one of the top items on the agenda for the board meeting scheduled for Sept. 15, 2020. The board will have to vote on whether or not they will extend a new contract or terminate Dr. Vidrine’s contract for the upcoming term.
Some board members, including Jennifer Haneline and Bill Willson, praised Vidrine’s leadership through severe weather, the 2019 ransomware attack, COVID-19, and the district’s increase in overall performance.
According to the Louisiana Department of Education, Monroe City Schools was rated a “C” last school year. Click here to see performance grades from the previous year.
Dr. Vidrine has over 30 years of experience in education. He became the superintendent in 2013. A majority of the board, four members, must vote to either renew or not to renew his contract.
The board must give a 90-day notice before December 31 if they choose not to renew the contract.
If they offer a new contract, it must be adjusted in accordance with state law.
