MONROE, La. – Carroll High School honored two sisters who died in a trooper involved crash earlier this month.
“As we release the balloons, that we not release the memories, but we know everything is in your hands and it’s going to be alright.”
Faculty and students stood at the center of the school’s football field and released dozens of balloons in honor of 18-year-old Kajenn-e and 11-year-old An-Janne Lindsey.
“I wish they would come back, but they can’t,” Sonita Capers said.
The two died October 1 after Louisiana State Trooper Kaleb Reeves rear-ended their car on Ticheli Road. He is the son of Colonel Kevin Reeves, the Superintendent of the Louisiana State Police.
The victim’s mom, Sonita Capers, and their brother, Kenneth Lindsey, were in the car when the wreck happened. They only sustained moderate injuries.
“The man upstairs is giving me strength every day. Right now I just have anger but I can’t let it out,” Capers said.
Kajenn-E was supposed to graduate from Carroll High School in May and had plans to attend LSU. For An-Janne, she had plans to become president.
Their brother said it pains him that he’ll never see them accomplish any of their goals.
“It was sad, and it broke my heart,” Kenneth Lindsey said.
Capers said the pain of losing her daughters still hurts, but she says seeing that balloon release let her know how much her kids were loved.
“It still hurts. I can always forgive but I won’t forget, but that won’t bring my girls back.”
