MONROE, La. – Baton Rouge rapper NBA Youngboy is reportedly in federal custody after fleeing from authorities.
Though he uses the stage name YoungBoy Never Broke Again, shortened and styled as NBA Youngboy, his legal name is Kentrell Gaulden. He was born and raised in the Baton Rouge area. Gaulden has been in trouble with the law, including Louisiana authorities, since before his music career took off.
Gaulden released his debut studio album Until Death Call My Name in 2018. The album has since been certified Platinum by the RIAA.
Now, reports say that Gaulden is in FBI custody after the Los Angeles Police tried to pull him over. Gaulden apparently has an outstanding federal warrant as well. When the LAPD tried to pull Gaulden over, he fled from police, triggering a chase. After the vehicle stopped, Gaulden tried to escape on foot.
TMZ further reports that a K-9 unit was used to track Gaulden down, and add that the dog did not bite Gaulden once discovered. They add that a firearm was located in the vehicle, but didn’t say whether or not it was Gaulden’s.
Right now it’s unclear is Gaulden’s FBI arrest is connected to his September 2020 arrest in Baton Rouge. Last year Gaulden was one of 16 people arrested for various gun and drug charges. Gaulden himself was facing three drug charges, and two firearm charges attached to that arrest.
Whether or not its connected, if Gaulden is found guilty of any of these crimes, it will likely mean a long jail sentence of some kind. Especially with Gaulden’s previous guilty plea to reduced charges stemming from a plea deal on First Degree Murder charges in Florida.
