MONROE, La. – Nicholls football ended its season with a 52-45 loss to Southeastern Louisiana on Saturday at John L. Guidry Stadium in Thibodaux in the River Bell Classic.
It was the final game of the spring season for the No. 18 Colonels (4-3, 3-3 Southland) and despite the loss to the No. 23 Lions (4-2, 4-2), Nicholls finishes with a winning season for the fourth consecutive year..
The River Bell Classic is now tied at 15-15.
Turnover troubles
The Colonels turned the ball over four times, all on interceptions from senior quarterback Lindsey Scott Jr.
Scott completed 19 of 38 passes for 261 yards and one passing touchdown. He rushed 11 times for 90 yards and another score.
Leaky defense
The Colonels allowed 499 total yards and 418 passing yards. Lions quarterback Cole Kelley was 30 of 41 for 391 yards and four scores. Lions receiver CJ Turner had 11 catches for 110 yards and two touchdowns.
Second-half advantage
The Lions outscored the Colonels 35-21 in the second half and had two pick-sixes in the third quarter to help take the victory. Ferlando Jordan had a 35-yard interception return for a touchdown with 14:28 left in the third quarter, and Jack Henderson added a 23-yard interception return for a touchdown.
Record breakers
Nicholls running back Julien Gums scored four touchdowns, a school single-game record, and wide receiver Dai’Jean Dixon set the all-time school record for receiving after making five catches for 92 yards.
