MONROE, La. – People who lost loved ones due to COVID-19 are getting some help from the Federal Government.

FEMA is offering up to nine thousand dollars per burial to help families cover the funeral expenses for loved ones who died of the virus.

Griffin Funeral Home in Monroe and West Monroe is helping people fill out the reimbursement application. To begin the process, you must have a death certificate with the cause of death listed as COVID-19. The death must have occurred between January 20th, 2020, through the current date.

“You’re going to need the funeral home’s assistant to file this. You can call the number, you could try to get the information and get everything done yourself, but you’re gonna need that contract. You’re gonna need the death certificate. We do make copies of the death certificate, the contract, anything that you might need. We do have that on file but we do have the 800 number, as well as the website, said Peter Tuberville, Griffin Interim Funeral Director.”

The program started this week, you can call FEMA’s COVID-19 funeral assistance helpline at 1-800-462-7585 or you can click here. Also Griffin Funeral Home can assist you at 318-396-3191.
