WEST MONROE, La. – The City of West Monroe says they’ve received funding toward a new sanitary sewer lift station that is expected to better mitigate backups and overflows in a major part of the city, including Glenwood Regional Medical Center and West Monroe High School.
According to a news release the city published on May 18, 2021, the city got $127,500 in funding from the State of Louisiana to assist in the first phase of a new Drago Street Sanitary Sewer Lift Station. Further details on the project have been provided by the city:
Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards and State Senator Jay Morris were instrumental in securing funding for the City that was needed for the planning of a new sanitary sewer lift station that will replace a station that is flood prone, in need of repair and has limited access. The funding is part of an intergovernmental agreement with the La. Department of Environmental Quality.
Phase 1 of this project includes planning services and activities for the construction of a new Drago Street Lift Station. Services include engineering design, boundary and topographic survey and construction of an access road to the site. The Drago Street Lift Sewer Lift Station is the second-largest station in the City’s sewer system. This station and associated sewer lines serve 2,400 customers in the City’s largest commercial and residential districts. This includes Glenwood Regional Medical Center and West Monroe High School.

Projects of this magnitude are not possible without the support of our state leaders.”
The City of West Monroe is in the process of seeking funding for Phase 2 of this project which will include the construction of the sewer lift station. Once completed, the new sewer lift station will be more readily accessible throughout the year, eliminate backups and overflows and ensure safe, healthy conditions for West Monroe customers. A new lift station would also relieve the City of West Monroe of the increasing financial burden of maintaining the old lift station which has become more costly to maintain than a new station.
