Area well represented at state powerlifting competition

MONROE, La. – The Rosepine Eagles, along with the Leesville Lady Cats and Wampus Cats, will be well represented at this weekend’s Louisiana High School Athletic Association’s state powerlifting championships at Fant Ewing Coliseum on the campus of the University of Louisiana-Monroe.

A total of 23 lifters will be competing Friday and Saturday for the right to become state champions.

On Friday, the girls will be lifting as Leesville head coach Kamilah Todd will bring a total of 11 Lady Cats to the meet, aiming for several individual and perhaps a state championship.

Representing Leesville in the girls’ championships are Rebecca Fournier, Elizabeth Haymon, Celine Chavez, Breana Welch, Allie Wittenhagen, Genevieve Shelton, Chloe Robinson, Kaylee Robinson, Rylei Taylor, Emani Whitley and Kaitlyn Stennett.

Saturday’s action will feature the boys’ championships. Eight Leesville lifters and four from Rosepine will be competing in the event.

Those representing Rosepine at the meet are Tristan Nolen, Cross Thomason, Jesse Parker and Blaine Savoy, while Leesville will feature the talents of Baylor Belsha, Caden Bealer, Izaiah Farley, Christian Sage, Baker Graves, Terry Evans, Leo Hernandez and Seth Haug.
