About the Diamond Dogs
The Bulldogs enter Tuesday’s game riding three straight wins over McNeese State, clinching the series sweep over the Cowboys with a 14-4 win in eight innings. The ‘Dogs scored 29 runs in the three-game series, outscoring McNeese 29-7 over the weekend.

Shortstop Alex Ray provided Tech’s offense a spark in the fifth inning on Friday, slicing a double down the right field line to open the scoring in the eventual 11-0 victory. The ‘Dogs scored multiple runs in the final four innings of the game to pull away from the Cowboys in the series opener.

Facing a 3-2 deficit in the eighth inning on Saturday, Conference USA Co-Hitter of the Week Manny Garcia delivered a clutch two-run double to put LA Tech ahead 4-3. Reliever Casey Ouellette nailed down his second save of the season in the ninth inning, getting a groundout to second baseman Taylor Young to clinch the Saturday triumph.

The Bulldogs, however, were not satisfied with just the series victory, jumping all over McNeese State early in Sunday’s finale. Tech built a 5-0 lead in the first following an RBI single from Parker Bates, a double steal of first and third to score the second run and then a three-run homer from Garcia to give the ‘Dogs a commanding lead after the first.

LA Tech has tallied 10 or more hits in six of their 10 games this season, averaging 8.2 runs per game in 2021. The Diamond Dogs remain undefeated in their new home, outscoring opponents 55-14 at the new J.C. Love Field at Pat Patterson Park.

The Bulldogs are 71-51 all-time against the Warhawks. The Diamond Dogs have won nine of the last 10 meetings in the series, but ULM split with LA Tech in 2019 as the two sides traded road victories.

Scouting ULM
ULM is 5-3 on the year after earning a series victory over Nicholls State this past weekend. The Warhawks dropped the opening game of the series before battling back to win games two and three by two runs apiece. ULM used a three-run fifth inning and a three-run fourth inning in Saturday and Sunday’s games, respectively, to pull away from Nicholls in each contest.

Junior Mason Holt leads the team with a .486 on-base percentage and is tied for the team-lead in hits with 11 base knocks. Fellow junior Wiley Cleland paces the Warhawks with nine RBI.

ULM’s projected Tuesday night starter Cole Martin recorded 1.1 scoreless innings on the mound in a game at New Orleans on Feb. 28, allowing no hits or walks in his sole appearance. Martin will face off against LA Tech’s Cade Hodges on Tuesday night. Hodges will make his first start in a Bulldog uniform in the game at Warhawk Field.

Up Next
LA Tech will return to the Love Shack to host No. 1 Arkansas for a three-game series. The weekend series against the Razorbacks will mark the first time since March 7-9, 2003, that the Bulldogs will host the No. 1 team in the country. No. 1 Rice, the eventual national champions that season, took all three games in the road trip to Ruston.
