MONROE, La. – There are lots of egg-stra fun Easter activities this weekend.

People are all abroad for the Easter Eggstravaganza at the Louisiana Purchase Gardens & Zoo. The event was canceled last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Staff is more excited to welcome people back to the zoo.

“It’s very exciting to have all the visitors today. I’m sure the animals are enjoying it too. They love the visitors. Just so happy that the weather is perfect,” Zoo General Curator Lisa Taylor said.

Kids participating in the Easter egg hunt scrambled to shove as much as they can in their bags. One family drove from Lafayette for a weekend getaway.

“Definitely has been really, really good especially for the kids. Being stuck in a house for almost a year and getting to be out around people a bit more,” Lafayette visitor Christopher Baham said.

He says it’s great to have something to do with the family.

“They had a great time. Got tons of eggs. Bags full. We actually had to go put them in the car because we couldn’t carry them around the whole zoo,” Baham said.

The fundraising event brings the community together and raises money for the zoo too.

“So glad to see some kind of normalcy. We want to thank the community here in Monroe and West Monroe for supporting the zoo,” Taylor said.

She hopes everyone had egg-stra fun with all the Easter activities.
