MONROE, La. – On Saturday, March 20, 2021, Republican Julia Letlow won Louisiana’s 5th Congressional District election.
Letlow carried around 63 percent of the vote. She is the first Republican woman elected from Louisiana to the House of Representatives.
Letlow will become the first woman to represent Louisiana in Congress in more than six years.
The 5th District seat representing a largely rural area across northeast and central Louisiana was vacant because Julia Letlow’s husband, newly-elected Republican Luke Letlow died of complications from COVID-19 before he could be sworn into Congress.
