MONROE, La. – Tackett Curtis has already made a name for himself in the 2023 class, with an impressive offer list before he finishes up his sophomore year at Many High School. Now, the 6-foot-2, 205-pounder can add a lofty recruiting ranking to his résumé.
Curtis made a huge leap with 247Sports, going from unranked all the way up to the No. 123 prospect overall in America. He is now the No. 9 outside linebacker and the No. 5 overall prospect in the Bayou State.
Playing safety, Curtis finished his sophomore campaign with 92 tackles and four interceptions as he helped Many High to a state championship in December. He was named the Shreveport Times Defensive Player of the Year for the area and also landed 2A First-Team All-State honors from the Louisiana Sports Writer’s Association. Curtis also grabbed the LSWA 2A Defensive Player of the Year honor.
The scholarship offers started rolling in during his freshman year, as Curtis landed offers from UL-Lafayette, Tulane, Louisiana Tech and UL-Monroe. By the start of his sophomore year, he reeled in his first Southeastern Conference offer from Mississippi State and his initial ACC offer from Virginia Tech.
Over the past few months, Curtis’ offer list has exploded with Miami, Michigan, Auburn, Georgia, Iowa State, Tennessee, Arkansas, Penn State, Oregon, USC, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Arkansas, and numerous others tossing their names on the list.
“It’s been crazy. It’s been quite the experience, for sure.” Curtis told 247Sports recently. “I believe that when the coaches really dig in and watch my film, I think that’s when they offer me.”
Curtis’ uncle, Jess Curtis, is the head coach at Many and that has facilitated with the early offers even though schools are limited in the type of contact they can have with the standout defender.”I still can’t really communicate with schools until Sept. 1, so it’s hard to talk to them too much,” he said. “But they communicate with me through my uncle…They can call him and then he has me call them. So, I call them, and they talk to me and offer me a scholarship. So that is kind of how we talk.”
