MONROE, La. – Lifeshare Blood Center in Monroe is partnering with St. Francis Medical Center for an emergency blood drive.

Lifeshare is now looking for other options to maintain its supplies that it would typically get from schools, businesses, and universities which are now closed.

Brandon Baker, the Regional Director for Lifeshare in Monroe said they are taking extra sanitation precautions to reduce the possibility of spreading coronavirus.

He is encouraging anyone in good health that is willing to donate to stop by the blood drive.

“With coronavirus, cancer treatment doesn’t stop. Sickle-cell disease doesn’t stop. Traumas don’t stop,” he said. “Everything still continues. Even today, we have heart surgeries going on. So those things don’t stop. So we still need to be able to supply our hospitals with the blood they need to be able to save lives in our community.”

The blood drive will be held March 17 and 18 at the St. Francis Medical Center’s main campus from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m.
