LOUISIANA – Louisiana COVID positivity was below 5% again today, per updated numbers issued by the state’s Department of Health.

The state’s % positive rate today is 4.1% with the 408 new cases and 9,531 processed tests.

A 4.1% positive rate continues Louisiana’s progress in flattening its curve. For 14 days in late-2020 and early-2021, our positive rate for the state was 13+%. But in recent weeks, both our total cases per day and also our positivity have plummeted.

The state reports 20 new COVID deaths today, bringing Louisiana’s confirmed death totals to 8,941.

For Lafourche, there are 0 new confirmed COVID cases today. The parish remains with 6,995 confirmed cases – the same as yesterday.

As the spread of the virus has slowed, our state’s hospitals system has caught up to patient demand.

The state reports 629 COVID hospitalizations today, down 1 from the 630 reported yesterday.

Our COVID hospitalizations have tumbled in recent weeks, down from the near-2,100 hospitalizations we saw at the peak of the third wave.

All 9 regions of the state have more total bedding and ICU bedding, as a result of the change in momentum.

There are 91 COVID patients on ventilators today, the same as yesterday.

In our region, Region 3, COVID hospitalizations rose from 24 to 27, and patients on ventilators rose from 4 to 5 overnight.

But as a whole, our region’s progress has been marked. At the peak of the third wave, we had more than 100 virus hospitalizations.
