Louisiana SBDC to host virtual workshops aimed at rural entrepreneurship

LOUISIANA – The Louisiana Small Business Development Centers at ULM and Louisiana Delta Community College partnering to continue their Rural Outreach and Assistance Month iniative.

They are hosting entrepreneurial workshops geared towards rural areas in northeast Louisiana.

ULM LSBDC director Virendra Chhikara says, “Small businesses are the backbone of economy. We have seen in the pandemic how the local economy, how the local job stays was through these small businesses.” He says though they were the hardest hit businesses, “they are the one who were hiring the most.”

More specifically, he says focusing on helping rural businesses is needed, because they don’t always get to have the same support as others. They can offer unique products and services though.

“That’s agriculture based. There’s oil and gas money coming in towards those areas,” Chhikara says. “There are some small local mom and pop businesses and this era of online business or online sales… So there is a need in rural parishes that we should be there more often talking to businesses and then take them to next level.”

The Louisiana SBDC will host four virtual workshops throughout two weeks at different LDCC campuses.

They will focus on different topics like personal branding, financial literacy, and enhancing your small business training.

“All these four workshops were tailored based on what LDCC asked based on the input from the local entrepreneurs.”

The LDCC Winnsboro campus will host a Personal Branding training at 3 p.m. on March 3. The LDCC Bastrop campus will host an Establish and Enhance Your Small Biz training at 6 p.m.

On March 11, the LDCC Tallulah campus will host a Financial Literacy workshop at 3 p.m. The LDCC Ruston and Jonesboro campuses will host a Financial Literacy training at 11 a.m.
