Man attempts to attack a deputy with a gun, placed in handcuffs

WEST MONROE, LA — An Ouachita Parish Sheriff’s deputy was approached from a man with a gun in his hand.

On Sunday, Feb.13, around 9 a.m. the deputy was parked at the 700 block of Smith Street next to another marked patrol unit when a certain Black male approached the deputy’s patrol unit.

When the suspect came on the passenger’s side, where the deputy was, they observed his hand coming out of this left pocket, where he was holding a black handgun.

The deputy then grabbed the suspect’s hand and was able to disarm the firearm from him. The suspect was arrested and identified as 33-year-old Tominic Montrael Johnson.

He was charged with Possession of a Firearm by a Person Convicted of Certain Felonies and Aggravated Assault Upon a Peace Officer.

Johnson was booked into the Ouachita Correctional Center. His bond was set at $25,000.
