OUACHITA PARISH, La. – Authorities say a crash in Ouachita Parish has claimed the life of a man from Monroe. The incident happened on May 14, 2021, at around 6:30 p.m.
According to the Louisiana State Police, they responded to a multi-vehicle crash on Louisiana Highway 594 at Powell Avenue. They say 19-year-old Jathamas White of Monroe was killed in the crash.
LSP says an investigation showed that a vehicle driven by 25-year-old Jalayla Jackson of Monroe was going eastbound on Hwy 594 approaching the intersection with Powell Avenue. They say Jackson failed to yield at a red traffic signal at the intersection and collided with another vehicle driven by White.
Police say after the first incident, Jackson’s vehicle continued through the intersection and hit a second vehicle causing it to hit another vehicle. They say White was taken to a local hospital where he later died. Two other passengers in the vehicle with White were also taken to the hospital with injuries.
Police say Jackson was not injured in the crash. A toxicology sample was obtained and submitted for analysis. The crash remains under investigation.
In 2021, Troop F has investigated 19 fatal crashes resulting in 22 deaths.
