MONROE, LA – The Monroe Police Department’s Office reported that arrest has been made for the shooting near the University of Louisiana in Monroe.
29-year-old Eugene Williams was charged with Second Degree Murder for killing a 17-year-old.
The incident happened on Tuesday, February 1, in the 4000 block of Spurgeon Drive when the officers responded to a shooting in the area.
Reportedly, there was a verbal fight between two small groups when it escalated, and they started firing shots between them.
The first responders found a 17-year-old shot in the upper chest area. He couldn’t be saved and died at the scene. Another shot victim was taken to a hospital, where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
According to the witness statements and a video recording of the incident, Eugene Williams,29 was at the scene and shot the victim.
Williams has been arrested for one count of Second Degree Murder.
The case investigation is still open.
