MONROE, La. – Residents at the Passman Plaza Retirement Home were part of the thousands of people who lost power after Hurricane Laura. The Salvation Army stepped in to do a community feeding program in their time of need.
They served sandwiches, beef stew, and cold drinks to 140 residents.
“It was a very satisfying day and I’m very grateful to this community allowing us to come out and help serve,” said The Salvation Army Corps Officer Captain Jerry Casey.
The Salvation Army also made stops at the Murray Plaza Apartments, and on Trenton St. in West Monroe. They served 250 meals at the Murray Plaza.
“Everybody been pulling together. That’s what this is all about. And we’re so thankful that you all gave up your day to come out and help us with no ice, no electricity, no water or anything, so we are all thankful,” said Passman Plaza resident Linder Penn.
Wherever there is a need in the community, they said they are trying to help satisfy it.
“Right now we’re just roaming around, doing, wherever we see the need. We see poles down, and no electricity…and windows open, and doors open. We’re stopping, knocking on doors, asking if they need some assistance.”
