MONROE, La. – Ouachita Parish Police Jury President Shane Smiley says someone has died from the coronavirus in Northeast Louisiana.
Smiley says that on Friday, it was brought to his attention that someone from another parish died of COVID-19 in Ouachita Parish.
He says the patient was brought to a hospital in Ouachita Parish. He says it happened on Wednesday and on Friday they were told that the patient was positive for COVID-19.
He says his understanding is that the patient was visiting and died at a hospital here on Wednesday. The test results were returned after the patient’s death and were confirmed as positive for coronavirus.
He says he wanted to share the information with residents as soon as he learned about it. He says he doesn’t have any other details.
He also says to date we’ve not had a positive COVID-19 case originating Ouachita Parish.
