MONROE, La. – State officials said in-state tourism is an important part of building Louisiana’s economy. Lieutenant Governor Billy Nungesser said this is the year of the “Louisiana Road Trip.”

Nungesser said it’s important for people to explore the state parks and historical sites to enjoy everything the state has to offer.

Currently, there are 18 out of 21 state parks open including Lake D’arbonne, Chemin-a Haut, and Jimmie Davis. Nungesser said these parks are a testament to the resources available in Louisiana, and this is a good time for residents should enjoy them.

“You can go and take a trail all over Louisiana, and it takes you off the beaten paths to some incredible places all over Louisiana. The scenic Bayou Ways are second to none. And Louisianans need to get out and really explore their state,” he said.

Nungesser also said the work to rebuild Louisiana’s economy begins with everyone supporting local businesses.

“No one can help us better than Louisianans. Getting out, and going and shopping at those local shops. Eating at local restaurants. Visiting those historical sites. Stay at a bread and breakfast. Or local hotel. And get around and see your state,” said Nungesser.
