MONROE, La. – Authorities say two unrestrained passengers were killed in a crash on Interstate 20 in Richland Parish.

According to the Louisiana State Police, a vehicle driven by 33-year-old Eswin Agustin of Monroe was traveling on Interstate 20 when Agustin lost control of the vehicle and hit a tree.

Police say the passengers in the vehicle, 37-year-old Jamie Mcllvoy and 6-year-old Luz Diaz, both of Monroe, were pronounced dead at the scene. They say Agustin and a third passenger was taken to a hospital with serious injuries.

LSP says impairment is suspected on Agustin’s part. The crash remains under investigation.

Louisiana State Police would like to remind all motorists that if you feel differently, you drive differently.  Alcohol, prescription drugs, and other drugs have many effects on the body that negatively affect driving skills.  These drugs can impair visual ability, alter the sense of time and space, impair fine motor skills needed to operate a motor vehicle, and decrease reaction times.  Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead and designate a sober driver.  Not doing so can have deadly consequences.
