MONROE, La. – This week, the city of West Monroe was designated as a Louisiana Certified Retirement Community.
The city will now be working with the Louisiana Office of Tourism to promote the area as a destination for retirees.
Some criteria for becoming a Louisiana Certified Retirement Community include the climate, demographics, tax structure, employment, volunteer opportunities, healthcare, recreational areas, and events.
The Encore Louisiana Commission oversees the program.
“Destinations selected for certification benefit from state-level marketing efforts, networking opportunities, and potentially grant funding to support the program,” according to the Louisiana Department of Culture, Recreation and Tourism.
