MONROE, La. – LSU Health Shreveport Emerging Viral Threat (EVT) has collaborated with the Living Well Foundation and the City of Monroe to schedule a free mobile COVID-19 testing event in Monroe.
The health center says that free mobile testing will be available at Monroe City Hall on Tuesday, Aug. 25, 2020, from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Mobile testing vans from LSU Shreveport have been traveling across North Louisiana, offering free testing in undeserved areas since April. LSU Health says these efforts have reached over 5,400 people.
After recognizing the need to expand the mobile testing in Monroe, they reached out to the Living Well Foundation, who responded with a $20,000 grant to provide mobile COVID-19 testing in the Monroe area.
A statement from the President and CEO of Living Well Foundation, Alice Prophit, can be found below.
“During the challenges experienced by our communities from the COVID-19 crisis, the Living Well Foundation initiated a special grant cycle to support disaster and crisis recovery as much as possible. With this grant, we know the need for testing and ongoing attention to the COVID-19 impact in our region is important. The LSU Health Sciences Foundation, with the Monroe campus of the Ochsner LSU Health System, have both partnered with us to ensure these services are provided with ongoing viability. We are pleased to assist LSU Health Sciences Foundation in a valuable service for the communities and people served.”
