Plane lands safely in Louisiana after large search in Tyler/Polk Counties

A military plane that was the focus of a large search in the Tyler/Polk County area landed safely Wednesday afternoon at Barksdale Air Force Base in Louisiana, according to information Tyler County Sheriff Bryan Weatherford provided to KFDM/Fox 4.

Citizens called the Tyler County Sheriff’s Office and reported a low flying military plane with smoke coming from an engine at about 2 p.m. Wednesday near the Tyler-Polk County line. Sheriff Weatherford says his deputies, DPS troopers and others began looking for the military cargo plane in the event it had crashed. He says they began searching at about 2 p.m. in the woods near the Tyler/Polk County line, around Highway 190. At about 4 p.m., he got word the plane had landed safely at Barksdale AFB.
