MONROE, La. – St. Francis Medical Center unveiled a remodeled playroom and family lounge.

They used a $25,000 donation from Ouachita Valley Federal Credit Union to remodel the area to include a kitchenette, homey furniture, a tv and acrylic art for each patient room and throughout the halls of the Pediatric Unit.

The playroom features a bright, color mural provided by the nonprofit organization Shelby’s Wish sponsored artist Lissy Compton of Mr. P’s Tees. The mural encompasses our region’s piney woods ecosystem including a bear, fox, stag and raccoon.

Officials say it’s something people can use and enjoy.

“To have a space for parents when they have a sick child… a space for the child to be able to have enjoyment and play in an atmosphere that when you walk in it… it brings that sense of peace and happiness,” Kristin Wolkart said, St. Francis Medical Center President.

Officials say the lounge and playroom area will provide comfort for the families and children.
