MONROE, La.  – A State of Emergency has been declared for Morehouse Parish and Ouachita Parish.

Effective at 2:55 p.m. Thursday, Ouachita Parish Police Jury President Shane Smiley called a State of Emergency for Ouachita Parish.

Effective 3:00 p.m. Thursday, Morehouse Parish Police Jury President Terry Matthews called a State of Emergency for Morehouse Parish due to dangerously cold temperatures and the probability of significant winter precipitation predicted over the next week.

The declarations say “immediate emergency actions and preparations are required in Morehouse Parish to address both the potential need to provide shelter to residents and the need to prepare and implement a response to the expected winter storm and the risks to life and property.”
