MONROE, La. – A man with 17 felony convictions has been arrested by police in Monroe.
According to the Monroe Police Department, they made contact with 56-year-old Leroy Mitchell of Monroe near the intersection on North 17th and Pine Street.
They say during the initial contact, Mitchell gave them a false name and also had drug paraphernalia on him. MPD says they found out that Mitchell had two outstanding warrants for his arrest. Officers say Mitchell was arrested for the warrants, possessing the drug paraphernalia, and interfering with an officer.
They say further investigation revealed that he was also identified as the suspect in other burglary crimes that happened on Feb. 1 and Feb. 6, 2021, in Monroe.
MPD says Mitchell has an extensive criminal history dating back to 1986 which results in 23 total felony arrests and 17 felony convictions. They say his bond was set at $60,000 and other burglary charges are expected on Mitchell.
